Improve Your Performance by 30% - Here's What Worked For Me

(And what can work for you too)

Welcome back to another round of the Seeds Newsletter! I’m so pumped you’re here. Today I’m going to share how I improved my work performance 30%, and how it directly applies to your life.

Let’s dive in.

I work in sales, and at the end of the day, results matter. After a not-so-great Q2, I improved my Q3 performance by 30% and am off to a fast start in Q4.

In reflecting on what's working, it's pretty simple:

By focusing on what matters.

This is nothing revolutionary, but it can be… if you apply it.

I was maniacally focused on Revenue Generating Activities (RGA’s) that are either:

1. Advancing Pipeline
2. Creating Pipeline

For you, this can means a couple things:

1. If you work in sales, do the above.
2. If you do not work in sales, focus on creating opportunities and doing the behaviors that will help you achieve the results you are looking for.

(Sometimes we need to take a step back and actually identify what those are)

For example, if you are searching a job, you can create opportunities by reaching out to people you know at prospective companies, and then advance those opportunities by following-up and staying persistent in your outreach.

Or maybe you’re focused on tackling your first marathon. Create opportunities by showing up to your local run club for support, learning, and camaraderie, and advance your opportunity by consistently executing your training plan.

For me, in a work setting, it’s simple: generate revenue for the business. If I’m not advancing or creating opportunities that are generating revenue for the business, then it’s either a distraction or needs to be addressed during non RGA hours.

I still have plenty of room for growth (more consistent prospecting, optimized daily structure, better habits, etc.), but continuous improvement is being made, and results are showing.

A former leader I worked under would always remind us to "articulate our success" and maintain “simple focus.”

This is your encouragement to do the same.

So now I bring it back to you:

  1. What are you focused on achieving? (make it one specific outcome)

  2. How can you create opportunities to achieve this outcome?

  3. What do you need to do to advance those opportunities?

Hope this helps at least one person, regardless of what profession you work in, or outcome you’re working towards.

Let’s go make it happen and cap off 2023 with rigor and intentionality.
