“That scares the shit out of me. Which is why we need to do it.”
-Me to my friend, Maverick, when he said we’re jumping off the 20-foot dock

I’ve jumped out of planes three times.
Bungee jumped twice.
Once backwards.

But cliff jumping.

Scares the life out of me.

The last time I cliff jumped I ended up in ER with a dislocated shoulder,
getting rescued out the water by a family friend.

It was rather traumatic… lol.

I’ve never jumped off anything since.

But when Mav said it, I felt it.
I knew I had to do it.

It was time to conquer a fear.

So we finished a lakeside workout/yoga sesh, knocked out our push-ups, and swam over to climb the dock.

“Don’t think,” I thought, “Just send it”

Mav proceeds to do a gainer.
If he did that, the least I can do is jump 😂

“Fuck it - here goes nothing!”

I jumped, yelled, and sent it.
And absolutely loved it.

So much so I did it again.

Before we continue, check out today’s work view ⬇️

Cabana view from El Pital Cacao Paradise in Ometepe, Nicaragua after climbing that volcano poking through the trees - can you see it?

Here’s the crazy part: I felt this internal pressure to leave and go catch the sunset.

Then remembered, “Dude, you’re literally living your dream. Writing a newsletter on a tropical island while watching the sunset. Staring at the volcano you climbed today… chill.”

For You: Brief reminder to be where your feet are. Right here, right now. In the present moment. Not chasing the shiny object, greener grass, or better sunset.

But fully present. In this moment.

Now back to the jump ⬇️

Here’s why it mattered: I overcame a fear which yielded self-confidence.

Self-confidence led to bold actions.

And those actions resulted in fulfillment.

Meaning.
Connection.
Aliveness.

And a newfound confidence that rippled into the next two days,
and next two weeks.

I found myself overcoming fear and saying yes to life:

🏍️ Ripping a motorbike around Ruta de Las Flores (was planning on just busing)
🇸🇻 Practicing Spanish at every opportunity
👍 Hitchhiking through El Salvador
🏝️ Renting a motorbike on my own to explore the beautiful island of Ometepe

Ripping my motorbike in Ometepe, Nicaragua - even managed to strap both backpacks to my back and chest - let’s get it!

Hitchhiking through El Salvador! Snagged rides from Lake Coatepeque, to El Congo, and then Santa Ana - what an adventure

The best part about (that applies to you) is the motorbikes have become some of my favorite travel experiences.

As my man Connor Marshall would say, there’s something special about two wheels.

But I never would have found this out had I not overcome the fear and tried in the first place.

Give yourself a chance to fall in love with something you never knew you loved.

This is also a testament to the power of people.

We’ve all heard it - you are the sum of the five people you spend your time with.

And for me, it’s so true.

Surrounding myself with high-caliber individuals forces personal growth and encourages me to do things (within reason) I wouldn’t do otherwise.

Mav and I met at a bus station in El Salvador, chatted for 5 minutes, exchanged numbers, and met up 4 hours later.

Not only did we do everything above together (lakeside workouts, motorbikes, cliffjumping, etc) -

We had some of my most powerful conversations about life.

Another reason I always say:

The best plan is no plan.

S/o my guy Mav for stretching my comfort zones and tearing up El Sal together - see you again soon enough brother 🤙🏽

🌱 Closing

I’m literally sitting here writing a newsletter on embracing discomfort when a woman sits down beside me.

We have a great conversation and next thing I know, my heart starts racing thinking about asking her to dance (salsa was playing on the balcony).

So - I ask her.
She says yes.
We hit the dance floor.
And it was amazing.

Dancing salsa. On the water. Under the stars. Last night in Ometepe.

All because I embraced the fear and went for it.

Who knows if I would have asked had I not jumped off that cliff.

Maybe.
Maybe not.

Either way - I’m glad I jumped.
And I’m glad I asked.

Life expands outside your comfort zone.

🌱 Call-to-Action: the next time your heart races and you know you should do something…

Do it.

Make the call.
Take the jump.
Ask to dance.
Say hello.

You never know if your dream life is disguised as discomfort.

🧘‍♂️ Mindfulness Tip of the Week

Tip: Embracing presence

Action: Look down at your feet and literally remind yourself, out loud, to be where your feet are.

Value: Your feet are right here, right now. In the present moment. And a terrific (easy) visual reminder that we can bring ourselves back at any time by looking down at them.

Find yourself worrying about the future that doesn’t exist?
Be where your feet are.

Find yourself living in the past?
Be where your feet are.

Bonus - take a breath.
Then another.
